Welcome to The Shape Of Wood

Think of us as #TreeToTable…something different every time you visit based on what’s newly available from harvest. Homegrown and handmade from local growth, you’ll find #EverydayArtForLife here: bowls, cutting boards, platters, simple furniture, and commissioned work. Each item is unique and at home on your table, patio, or a gift for any occasion. We routinely design and ship custom orders!

It’s inventory rebuild time, so bear with us. Taking holiday orders and commissions! If you’re unsure of what to choose, call us and we’ll set up a gift card.

We are always adding new creations. We routinely update Facebook and Instagram…details are a few clicks away on this website. If you can’t find something, contact us—we do commissioned work. We have something for nearly any style home, and love helping you with surprises!

For orders, please check with us if you need an urgent shipment…otherwise, we are accepting orders and sending out gift cards with featured species: Ornamental Pear, Honey Locust, Cottonwood and Ambrosia Silver Maple (unusual find; check on seasoning time). We have limited quantities of Black Walnut, Box Elder, and Aspen. Give us a call.

Why the variation in pricing? Because all of our wood is locally sourced—and based on availability of local species—it’s supply and demand. White Birch and Black Walnut are uncommon, Juniper is rare; Elm, Linden, and Cottonwood are relatively plentiful. We are humbled and excited by a Century Tree harvest.

It’s always a great time for custom orders, wedding gifts, or something for a special occasion.

Not sure what to choose, or out of town? Gift cards are available. Check with us for details on designing your gift and a woodshop visit. Our cards indicate a work in progress or options to order and create a special piece.

If you have a tree to harvest, head over to our ABOUT page for a special offer. Important to knowwe are not a tree removal company, but will remove sections of wood already downed by those professionals, to salvage for new creations.

The Shape of Wood is a locally owned producer of beautiful carved bowls and plates.  The pieces on the website are great, but you should really check out these exquisite pieces in person. The finish, texture and color are best appreciated holding each piece!

I am so delighted with the Elm serving bowl I recently purchased. The natural beauty of the wood is perfectly enhanced by the shape and design. This bowl is quickly becoming one of my favorite things!

“Our beloved family tree has a new life, now inside our home, with a welcome spot at the table. Peter worked with us to design pieces for salad, charcuterie, and noodles.”
